Roger Coleman, along with his wife, Elizabeth, helped to establish Pilgrim Chapel in 1997 by creating a not-for-profit organization to acquire the former Pilgrim Lutheran Church for the Deaf.

Dr. Coleman was ordained by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).  He attended seminary at Texas Christian University and has additional graduate degrees from the University of Missouri/Columbia (M.Ed.) and St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City (D. Min.).

Dr. Coleman has established a national reputation as a leader in the development of wedding-related ceremonies. In 1987, he created the Family Medallion®, resources for including children in the wedding service when a parent remarries. Today, the Family Medallion is used in over 20,000 weddings annually to reassure children of their importance in new stepfamily relationships. (See www.familymedallion.com for more information on the Family Medallion.)  Dr. Coleman is a member of the Stepfamily Association of America Board of Directors and writes a regular column for Bride Again Magazine.

Locally, Dr. Coleman is also on the staff of Community Christian Church as Chaplain of Urban Ministries. He has served as Chairman of the Mayor’s Task Force on Hunger and Director of the Westport Allen Center. He is President of Clergy Services, Inc., an organization that coordinates information on clergy available for weddings and other ceremonies not only in Kansas City but also throughout the U.S. and Canada. (See www.clergyservices.com for additional information on Clergy Services.)

Dr. Coleman brings to each ceremony a deep belief in the importance of marriage and a vast knowledge of  traditional and non-traditional wedding resources.
